More About Jennie Baranczyk
Baranczyk was named the sixth head women's basketball coach at Drake University in 2012. At the time, Baranczyk, 31, was the second youngest Division I head women's basketball coach. Despite her young age, she made an immediate impact in women's basketball.
Baranczyk's teams have been highly successful both on the court and in the classroom during her tenure at Drake. Team members are known for being actively involved in the community as well. The Drake Women’s Basketball program has reached its goal of completing 1,000 community service hours in the Drake and Des Moines communities every year since the 2013–14 academic year.
A graduate of Dowling Catholic in Des Moines, Baranczyk helped her high school team to win state championships in 1998 and 2000, and has since been named to the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union Hall of Fame.
From Dowling, she went on to play for The University of Iowa and earned a Bachelor's Degree in communication studies in 2004. One of the best all-around players in Iowa Hawkeye basketball history, Baranczyk was a three-time captain and four-year letter winner from 2000–2004. After graduating from Iowa, she went on to earn a Master's Degree in counseling and student development from Kansas State in 2007.
In June this year, she was named a 2017 Women of Influence honoree by the Business Record. The award celebrates the work of women who have made a difference. Today, Baranczyk sits on the board for the Young Women's Resource Center in Des Moines.
Baranczyk and her husband, Scott, have one son, Eli, and two daughters, Jordi and Hope, who was born in June of this year.
IGIA Women in the Industry will be hosting a donation drive for the Young Women's Resource Center, a local non-profit organization that supports, educates and advocates for young women ages 10-21. The Center provides programming through small groups and individual support for all young women, regardless of what they may be going through.
