About Lisa Oakes
Whether it was running political campaigns, interviewing Egyptians during the Arab Spring or navigating Doha, Qatar, and its cultural norms to publish content for international news outlets or getting handcuffed to a source on a story and trying to figure out a way to come away with a scoop, Lisa has cultivated optimal communication skills to succeed in any environment.
Currently, Lisa is a lecturer at the Greenlee School of Journalism at Iowa State University. She teaches reporting and news writing, diversity in today's media climate, public affairs reporting and investigative reporting. She's been recognized by her students with several awards for teaching excellence and by ISU's Office of Multicultural Student Affairs as an outstanding faculty member.
Audiences respond to her engaging and humorous approach and real-life experiences brought by her professional career and personal life as a mom to two-year-old twins. She loves interacting with audiences to offer practical solutions to communication difficulties.
Lisa holds a Master's degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in News-Editorial Journalism, with an emphasis on political science.
About Lisa Hermann
Lisa was born and raised in Des Moines where she attended Dowling Catholic high school and graduated from the University of Iowa in 1994 with a degree in Psychology and a minor in Business. Lisa married her high school sweetheart Jim. They have 2 kids, Grace 17, Will 14 and Coco their dog.
Lisa began her career at Cigna Healthcare where she started processing claims, became a Team Leader and received her certification to become a Certified Technical Trainer. After Cigna, she worked at Wellmark Blue Cross Blue Shield and created a training program for Large and Small Group membership. She also received her DMAIC Greenbelt certification through Wellmark. From Wellmark she moved to Wells Fargo as a Senior Business Process Consultant. She facilitated greenbelt training for the Auto, Retailer and Card Services group. She also introduced Wells Fargo Financial to the Lean Methodology. She received her Lean Master Certification while at Wells Fargo.
Lisa is now a Continuous Improvement Senior Consultant at Kum & Go. Lisa has been with Kum & Go for the last five years. She received her DMAIC Black Belt certification in 2015. Lisa’s focus at Kum & Go is reducing store complexity, making the lives of Kum & Go Associates easier and more efficient. Lisa also partners with Learning & Development at Kum & Go to facilitate Crucial Conversations and Strengths Finder training.
