Tuesday, Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue announced at a conference that USDA will have the ability to fund April SNAP benefits if the government shuts down again after the CR expires on February 15. He did not confirm that USDA would indeed implement the early issuance strategy used to distribute February benefits, but he did mention that it will be an option that exists:
"We may have to do the same thing we did, but we haven't determined that yet; it's early in February. I think states should be prepared on this 30-day extension we get with the funding." –Sec. Perdue referring to the USDA's ability to pay out April SNAP benefits early if the government shuts down again.
