RECALL ALERT: FDA investigating Salmonella infections linked to frozen tuna distributed in Iowa

(KTIV) – The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is investigating an outbreak of salmonella illness linked to a company that distributed frozen ground tuna to multiple states, including Iowa.

On Monday, Jensen Tuna, of Houma, Louisiana, voluntarily recalled frozen ground tuna that was individually packaged in one-pound bags and sold in 20-pound boxes under lot numbers z266, z271, and z272.

The product was distributed to Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota, North Dakota, Washington, and Connecticut. Officials say the product could have been redistributed further, reaching additional states.

One person has been reported ill from the tuna in Iowa, this according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Officials with the CDC say if a customer who orders sushi made with raw tuna, including “spicy tuna” should ask the restaurant or grocery store if the tuna is from Jensen Tuna.

If restaurants and retailers do not know if the frozen ground tuna they have is recalled to contact the distributor.

The investigation is ongoing, and the CDC will provide more updates when information is available.
