Kum & Go is building a store on South Duff Avenue, making it the fourth location for the convenience store chain in Ames.

The new store, at South Duff and Crystal Street, will be a marketplace store, featuring a wide variety of food, drinks and alcohol that others don’t.

“Kum & Go is thrilled to be adding another store to the Ames community,” said Ariel Rubin, a spokesperson for the West Des Moines-based company, in a statement to the Ames Tribune. “Our marketplace stores offer a wide selection of fresh and made-to-order food, expansive beer cave, a seating area with free Wi-Fi and charging stations.”

Besides the amenities inside of the store, the new station will have 12 fueling pumps and will offer E-85, E-15, diesel and unleaded fuels for its customers.

To Julie Gould, a planner with the city of Ames’ Planning and Zoning Department, this new location will bring a service that many of the southern commuters will appreciate.

“I think that we be seeing a lot of commuters coming in and out of Ames on the south part of town, especially on South Duff, with Highway 69, so it’ll add a little convenience to people who live on that side of town, and commute through,” Gould said.

The site plan for the new station was approved in June, Gould said, but before that, the area had to be rezoned from agricultural to commercial.

That all happened when the Bricktowne development plan was proposed to the city, and was granted rezoning, Gould said. Along with the Bricktowne apartments located at 120 Jade St, there are two commercial lots being built, and the Kum & Go is the first one.

Kum & Go is hoping to opens its new location sometime later this fall, the statement said.
