FORT MADISON, Ia. (WGEM) -The new Fareway Grocery is now officially open in Fort Madison.

People were waiting in line to get their first look at the store, located at 1820 Avenue H, on Wednesday morning. The store had a special sale for the grand opening.

The store's mission is to provide a full-service meat department and farm-fresh produce department.

They also have a checkout service where people will take your groceries to your car.

"It was very good," resident Linda Underwood said. "Everyone was very helpful, offered to help in any aisle that you is in. They had a smile, and that's a big part of it. I'm glad they are here for Fort Madison. It is something that we needed."

Mayor Brad Randolph spoke at the ribbon cutting and said two grocery stores in the city wasn't enough since County Market closed last February.

Randolph hopes this continues economic development in the city.
