ServSafe Offers Free Food Handler Certification
ServSafe is a food and beverage safety training and certificate program administered by the U.S. National Restaurant Association. During the COVID-19 pandemic, ServSafe and the National Restaurant Association are supporting food service workers by offering a free ServSafe Food Handler course and exam.
The Food Handler certification is one among many other nationally accredited certifications in food safety that ServSafe offers. Required by law in many states, the Food Handler Certification is voluntary in Iowa, but could be an effective way to stop the spread of the Coronavirus.
The purpose of the certification is to ensure that food service workers have an understanding of basic food safety principles. The course covers basic food safety, personal hygiene, cross-contamination and allergens, time and temperature, and cleaning and sanitation, all of which are extremely important at this time.
This free course is offered online and is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It is also available in both English and Spanish.
