Where is the convention being held this year?

We are excited to host the IGIA Get Connected Convention again this year at the Coralville Marriott Hotel and Conference Center in Coralville, Iowa. Located at 300 East Ninth Street, the hotel anchors the Iowa River Landing, a remarkable 180-acre, mixed-use development, situated off Interstate 80 at Exit 242 (First Avenue) in Coralville. Perched along the Iowa River, the Landing includes more than 330,000 square feet of retail, office, residential and entertainment space. When is the deadline to register for convention?

Please register by 4:30 p.m., Friday, June 23 so we can plan accordingly for meals, activities and convention materials. After this early bird deadline, the rate increases $50 per registrant. If you choose to cancel your event registration before the June 23 deadline, a written notice to the IGIA Office is required for the refund to be processed. NO refunds will be issued after the June 23 deadline.

Do I have to be an IGIA member to attend the convention? 

No, a non-member rate of $350 is available if you register by 4:30 p.m., Friday, June 23. After this date, you will be charged an additional $50 per registrant. If you choose to cancel your event registration before the June 23 deadline, a written notice to the IGIA Office is required for the refund to be processed. NO refunds will be issued after the June 23 deadline.

Can my spouse attend and participate in convention activities?

Yes! Your spouse may attend and participate in all of the convention activities. The spouse rate is $175 for members and $250 for non-members. Please register your spouse prior to the Friday, June 23 deadline to avoid rate increases. Jacque Irlbeck, wife of IGIA’s chairman of the board, will host a special spouses event from 9-11 a.m., Wednesday, July 12 at the Coralville Marriott Hotel and Conference Center.  For more information on the spouses event, please visit http://www.iowagrocers.com/spouses-event.cfm.

This is my first IGIA Convention, what should I know?

All convention activities are included in your registration fee, except for the golf tournaments. You MUST be registered for the convention to participate in the golf tournaments. Golf registration is $115 (member rate) for the Early Bird Golf Tournament and $135 (member rate) for the IGIA Golf Tournament. These rates increase $25 per golfer after 4:30 p.m., Friday, June 23.

IMPORTANT: Please let IGIA Staff Member Cara Corkrean | ccorkrean@iowagrocers.com | know if you are a first-time attendee of the IGIA Get Connected Convention. This is important so she can pair you with a convention ambassador to help you make business-building connections and guide you through any convention questions.

How do I reserve my hotel room? 

Make your reservations at the official convention hotel, Coralville Marriott Hotel and Conference Center, by calling 319.688.4000 or 800.228.9290 and requesting a room in the “IGIA Convention block.” Be sure to make your reservation before Tuesday, June 20 to receive the special discounted IGIA rate of $109/night for a standard guest room, plus taxes. Rates will go up after this time. All guest rooms include parking for one vehicle per night and standard guestroom Internet access.

When can I check into my hotel room?

At the Coralville Marriott Hotel and Conference Center, you can check in after 4 p.m. The checkout time is noon.

What should I wear to convention?

The convention dress code is business causal, so feel free to be comfortable in khaki pants, slacks, short-sleeved polo shirts and long-sleeved shirts (no ties or jackets needed); summer dresses, crop pants and shorts are also acceptable. We recommend dressing in layers or bringing along a light sweater as temperatures vary in meeting rooms. We also highly suggest you wear your golf attire to Wednesday morning’s activities, so it’s an easy transition to the afternoon IGIA Golf Tournament.

Is lunch available at the golf tournaments?

A box lunch will be available at both the Early Bird Golf Tournament on Tuesday afternoon, as well as at the IGIA Golf Tournament on Wednesday afternoon. 

What is new at this year’s convention?

Because last year’s powerpacked, condensed convention agenda was so popular, the 2017 convention agenda will follow a similar format. It all starts Tuesday morning with the popular Early Bird Golf Tournament from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. at Brown Deer Golf Club. Express convention registration will be available in the Coralville Marriott Hotel and Conference Center lobby from 2 – 5 p.m. We then invite everyone to join us from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. for Kinnick Kickoff, which will be held in the Mediacom Outdoor Club at the Kinnick Stadium Press Box.  If you are unavailable to check-in at the hotel prior, express convention registration will be available at the Kinnick Stadium Press Box from 6 – 7 p.m. This opening event will feature former Iowa Hawkeye player and coach, Chuck Long, who will be available for photos and autographs, as well as university celebrities, tailgating games, door prizes, tailgate-themed food stations and more. 

Complimentary parking is available at the stadium. Following our opening convention event at Kinnick Stadium on Tuesday evening, July 11, there will be an after-hours social beginning at 9:30 p.m. at 30hop, which is just a short five-minute walk from the Coralville Marriott at 900 E Second Avenue. 30hop is a newer restaurant/bar in the Iowa River Landing that features a rooftop patio with 30 beers on tap, 60 beers on tap on the main level, specialty cocktails, wine list and an American menu with an Asian fusion twist. The rooftop patio seats 130 people while the main restaurant boasts close to 400 seats.

The convention starts with a bang and ends with a bang so be sure to stick around until the end! Please make plans to attend the Chairman’s Breakfast at 7 a.m. on Thursday, July 13, when IGIA Chairman Aaron Irlbeck and the IGIA Board of Directors will be recognized. Keynote Ray Cole will follow the breakfast event with his “Hangin’ with Winners” presentation, as well as Hamody Jasim with his inspirational story, “The Terrorist Whisperer: The Story of the Pro American.” We will close the convention with the IGIA Awards Ceremony. During this time, we will recognize the IGIA Leadership Institute graduates, host the annual meeting/transfer of the gavel, recognize incoming IGIA Chairman Karl Kruse and view the convention slide show.
